Our Programme (only in German)

The Foundation's oldest centre, the Theodor Heuss Academy in Gummersbach, offers a full programme on issues relating to "freedom and responsibility in civic society". Furthermore, specialist conferences and introductory seminars on essential political fields of and questions on liberalism.
Research work on the theory behind our various topics can be conducted in the Archive of German Liberalism which is in the same building. As the venue of our International Political Dialogue, the Theodor Heuss Academy is also a place for exchanging opinions and experiences at an international level.

This is what the Theodor Heuss Academy has to offer its guests:

• a representative panoramic hall which seats up to 100 people; the hall features full stereo equipment and a grand piano;
  
• 1 seminar room for max. 60 Personen
  
• a seminar room that can accommodate up to 60 people;
  
• several seminar rooms for up to 30 people; and group meeting rooms for up to 10 people
  

Seminar rooms are equipped with ultra-modern conference technology: mobile pin-boards and flip charts, interpreter booths, several TV-sets, video cameras and video recorders.

• comfortably furnished single and double rooms with en-suite facilities, radio, TV and telephone;
• a reading corner with a variety of daily papers, including international editions;
• a gallery with alternating exhibitions;
• a leisure room with facilities for table tennis, billiards and table football;
• Sauna
• a lounge and fireplace;
• a cosy bar and club room;
• the Archive of German Liberalism including a library;
• a large terrace / sun-deck plus several barbecue facilities;
• outdoor tennis courts;
• signposted short walks;
• swimming and winter sports facilities in the vicinity

How to get there

By car:
Motorway (Autobahn) A4, exit Gummersbach/Wiehl, follow signs to Gummersbach. Turn right roughly 600 m after slip road becomes a single-lane road, turn right after Chinese restaurant, then straight on through underpass and in a large curve straight on to a small cross- roads, turn left up the hill;
or take:
Motorway (Autobahn) A4, exit Gummersbach/Wiehl, follow signs to Gummersbach. Exit at "Vollmershausen/Bergneustadt", turn right onto arterial road (Bundesstraße) B 55. After roughly 1.5 km, in Niederseßmar, turn left and go up the hill.

By train:
From Cologne main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) take a "City Bahn" local train to Dieringhausen or Gummersbach. Trains run at hourly intervals. From there, take a bus or a taxi to Niederseßmar.

By air:
Arrive at either Cologne/Bonn or Düsseldorf airport. Take a "City Bahn" local train from Cologne or Düsseldorf main station (Hauptbahnhof) to Dieringhausen or Gummersbach (see above).
